ZLG Counselling

A supportive therapeutic environment that focuses on empowerment, self understanding & meaningful change.

Thank you for visiting ZLG Counselling.

Thank you for visiting my website. Finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming, particularly when you're not sure where to begin. My aim is for this space is to help you to get a sense of who I am and how I work.

I work in an empowering and collaborative way, supporting you to better understand your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and move forward in a way that feels right for you. Whether the challenges you are facing feel longstanding or recent, big or small, they matter and so does your story.

Alongside general mental health support, I am particularly passionate about menstrual and reproductive health and the emotional impact of hormonal changes across the cycle. I work with clients to better understand the connection between their mental health, body, lived experience, and to develop a more compassionate and informed relationship with themselves.

I am a humanistic counsellor with an integrative approach, meaning sessions are tailored to your individual needs rather than a "one size fits all" approach. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and work in line with their ethical framework to ensure safe, professional, and confidential care.

Your story matters.

What you think, feel and experience is important and deserves to be taken seriously. Very often we are met with advice from friends and family but sometimes that can be more of a hinderance than a help. Whether what you are dealing with feels overwhelming or hard to name, it matters.

My role as your therapist is not to tell you who to be or how to feel, but to work alongside you and make sense of what's happening for you and feel heard. Together, we can explore patterns, underlying causes, and the things that may be keeping you stuck, with the aim of helping you feel more informed, grounded and in control.

What you can expect from working with me

  • A calm, no judgement space where you don't have to filter yourself
  • A collaborative approach, where we work things out together rather than me telling you what to do
  • Thoughtful psychoeducation to help you understand yourself, your reactions and your behaviour better.
  • Exploration beyond thoughts, including how your nervous system responds to stress and how neuroscience can help you make sense of yourself.
  • Space for humour and lightness where it naturally arises.

Person Centred Therapy

Person centred therapy underpins my work. This means sessions are led by you, not a rigid agenda or set of techniques. Its about creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected and able to speak openly without fear of judgement.

This approach can support self awareness, confidence and autonomy. You are supported to explore your experiences which helped shape your story to understand yourself better and make choices that feel right for you.

Gestalt Therapy

I also draw from Gestalt therapy, which focuses on what's happening in the present moment and how past experiences may be showing up in our present. This may include paying attention to patterns, emotional responses and bodily sensations and understanding what our biology is trying to communicate to us.

Gestalt informed work can be helpful for increasing self awareness, recognising unmet needs and making sense of emotional difficulties as they arise.

Transactional Analysis

I draw on Transactional Analysis to help make sense of thinking patterns, behaviour and relationships. TA can be useful in understanding how earlier experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. This includes communication patterns, internal responses, and roles we may find ourselves slipping into, often without realising it.

This approach can be helpful if you are noticing recurring difficulties in relationships, self criticism or feeling stuck in familiar emotional patterns.

Trauma Informed

I work in a trauma informed way, shaped by my experience supporting survivors of abuse during my time at RSVP Birmingham and continued through my private practice.

Being trauma informed means working with care, transparency, and respect for your boundaries. I play close attention to safety, pace, and choice, recognising that what we have been through can continue to influence emotions, relationships, reactions and responses. The focus is on understanding patterns and responses without re-traumatisation, judgement, or pressure to disclose more than feels right.

What issues can counselling help with?

People work with me for many different reasons. Sometimes with a clear issue in mind, sometimes with a sense that something isn't quite right. What ever issues you are facing, no matter how big or small they seem to others. You are important, are valued and worthy of support.

I work with a range of emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties, and support clients to understand what's happening beneath the surface, not just manage the symptoms.

  • Anxiety, stress and ongoing overwhelm.
  • Low mood, emotional numbness, or feeling disconnected.
  • Difficult or intense emotions, including anger and frustration.
  • Emotional dysregulation and nervous system overload
  • Past experiences that continue to impact the present
  • Confidence, self esteem and a harsh inner critic.
  • Unhelpful or unhealthy coping tools.
  • Relationship difficulties, boundaries and communication.
  • Menstrual mental health and the impact of hormonal shifts.
  • Life transitions, identity shifts, and periods of uncertainty.
  • Personal growth, self exploration, and greater self understanding.
